Update to the
AccountRight additional
file discount

Announcement

Frequently Asked Questions

Why have we made this change?

With the evolution of our business management platform, we now offer flexible subscriptions and pricing plans designed to make it easy for you to choose the right solution for each business.

Previously, AccountRight licensing for your clients meant they needed to keep all files on the same product tier, regardless of the needs of each business file. This meant clients often had to use a subscription with advanced functionality they didn’t require, at a higher cost than was necessary. Taking this into account, the discount program was put in place.

Are you planning to discontinue AccountRight?

The AccountRight subscription is the top tier of the MYOB Business range, and we currently have no intention of discontinuing it.

As a business we are invested in this product and all releases we do, including for the browser, are available to AccountRight subscribers.

We have implemented automatic update capability to make AccountRight easier to install. We are using that to give you more updates than we ever have before. See our release notes for more information on all the improvements made.

Is this designed to get MYOB clients to move to the cloud?

No, it’s not the driving intent. This is part of our continuing effort to simplify our products, offers and pricing to make it easier for you and your clients to choose software that meets the needs of each business.

Removing this discount is another step towards a simpler, cleaner MYOB offering.

Don’t forget, if your clients are happy with their current AccountRight subscription they can continue using the product.

Does this impact Australia and New Zealand customers?

We are currently making this change in Australia only.

Do loyalty and partner discounts apply?

Yes! Your current partner discount still applies.

Will any commissions or rebates I currently receive change due to the removal of the discount?

You may see a change to the commission or discount amounts you currently receive due to the removal of the additional file discount for your clients from 1 June 2023.

The change to your commission or discount will depend on individual circumstances. The commission or rebate is calculated on the RRP. This means that the commission or rebate will change if your client continues with their current subscription, downgrades or migrates their subscription or decides to cancel.

The standard terms and conditions on your rebates and commissions apply.

You can check or update your reward preferences by visiting my.myob.

Can I change my subscription to client pays?

If after discussions with your client, you would like to change the subscription billing to the client you can submit a support request and use the subject line 'Partner pays to client pays'.

Or if you need more information about the process, click here.

My client has received their bill with the discount removed and has reached out to me for advice. What are their options?

If your client is currently subscribed to a product with more functionality than they need, there are options to move to other versions of MYOB Business or AccountRight. You can find details about the options available to them here.

Watch our webinar ‘Enhancing your AccountRight experience’, which demonstrates the difference between the desktop and online AccountRight experience. It also explores how MYOB can work with you to make sure your clients are using the best business management platform solution for their needs. Watch here.

Which clients are affected by the discount removal starting from 1 April 2024?

In September 2023 and February 2024, we provided you with a list of the subscriptions affected as well as information on how to make sure your clients are on the right subscription for each business file.

What if the subscription is paid annually?

If you prepay subscription fees for clients annually in advance, the updated pricing will take effect after 1 April 2024, from the date you receive the next annual bill. If you would like to downgrade to another version of AccountRight before 1 April 2024, contact us to discuss the affect it will have on your billing.

Can I still purchase additional files for AccountRight?

Yes, you can still purchase additional files for AccountRight. However, the Additional File Discount won’t apply to any new subscriptions you purchase. We’ll charge you the base subscription price (less any partner loyalty discount you’re entitled to).

To process the migration, who has access to my file?

MYOB staff in Australia and New Zealand will process your migration. We take the security and protection of your data seriously. Learn more here.

Is there a limit to the number of files I can migrate?

There are no limits to the number of files you can migrate through the service, however an MYOB Business Lite or Pro subscription is required for each file that is to be moved.

Restrictions apply. View the MYOB Plan and feature comparison chart to understand whether you can migrate to a different version of AccountRight.

How long does the migration process take?

If you’re changing to another AccountRight subscription, please allow for up to 3 weeks for us to complete your request. Please note you can continue to work on your file while waiting for this change.

If you’re moving to MYOB Business you’ll need to submit your AccountRight file. Please allow for 3 business days to complete your migration. Any changes made to your file after you have submitted your backup will not be brought across and need to be re-entered into MYOB Business.

Can I still use my file if I cancel my subscription?

If you are on an offline product license, you’re welcome to use a local (offline) copy of the file going forward. Although you would miss out on the benefits of an AccountRight subscription such as live services (cloud access, bank feeds, pay superannuation, STP). Check out this link for more details.

I thought you didn't sell AccountRight Standard anymore?

Although we stopped selling AccountRight Standard, we brought it back as a bespoke downgrade option exclusively for customers affected by the removal of the AccountRight additional file discount.

How many files does AccountRight Premier include?

Each AccountRight Premier serial number comes with two files. One is a free bonus file that you are given access to when you pay the relevant subscription fees.

My client wants to move to a new solution but isn’t sure which one to take. How can I help them?

There are options available for your clients to consider. They can downgrade some of their files to a simpler version of AccountRight or migrate to MYOB Business Lite or Pro.

We’ve prepared an email template you can use to help your clients decide their next steps. Click here.

How do I recommend the best solution for my client?

Are there any steps I need to take after I move to another version of AccountRight?

If you’re moving your AccountRight product to a different tier, there’s no additional setup required.

Moving to MYOB Business

MYOB Business has many of the same features as AccountRight but being a web app it has a different look and feel. Changing products can be disruptive to your clients’ business; and may require learning a new interface and new product workflows. Consider if your clients are prepared for that shift, or if moving to another version of AccountRight is the better choice.

How long will the process take?

Once you submit a request form, you’ll get an email with instructions to upload your file. Once your file has been uploaded, it will take approximately 3 business days for us to complete the migration. If an issue arises which impacts our ability to migrate your file in this timeframe, we’ll contact you as soon as possible to let you know.

Can I still work on my file?

Any changes made to your file after you have submitted your backup will not be brought across and will need to be re-entered into MYOB Business after the migration is complete.

What information is brought across to MYOB Business?

Your data will be seamlessly migrated across, subject to the exceptions outlined below.

MYOB Business Lite or Pro currently does not feature category tracking so if your clients used this function in MYOB AccountRight, this category information will not be migrated.

If your clients are migrating to MYOB Business Lite, Sales Orders will need to be converted to Invoices prior to submission. Sales Orders are not supported in MYOB Business Lite and will not be migrated.

Professional and Miscellaneous transaction layouts will be converted to Service layout during the migration process. MYOB Business only Supports Service and Items transaction layouts.

Time billing invoices are not supported in MYOB Business, cannot be converted to Service layout, and will become read-only during the migration process – All time billing transactions will need to be finalised prior to migration.

Inventory locations are not supported in MYOB Business. If your clients have used multiple inventory locations in the data file, these will be consolidated into a single location during migration.

Customised forms and reports are not migrated.

Item and card images are not migrated.

Please note: If you've used multi-currency function in MYOB AccountRight, then regretfully we won’t be able to migrate your data as this feature is currently not available in MYOB Business. Please  contact us to discuss the product options available that will best suit your needs.

Do I need to do anything to prepare my file?

Before you submit your request, there are a few things you will need to do within the old file to prepare it for migration and ensure no transactions are lost:

  1. Make sure all users stop entering data in your old file
  2. The datafile you supply will need to be in the current or previous financial year. If your datafile is sitting in a financial year prior to this, the Migration Team will need to roll your financial year for you. For more information on closing a financial year click here.
  3. Make a backup file.
Are there any steps I need to take after I move to MYOB Business?
  1. You’ll need to notify the ATO of your new BMS ID for services that connect to the ATO such as Single Touch Payroll. We’ll send you an email with more information once your migration is complete.
  2. Custom forms and templates (such as an invoice template) cannot be migrated and will need to be re-created in MYOB Business. See the article set up your sales templates for more information.
  3. You'll need to re-invite any users to your MYOB Business file. Find out how here.
  4. Bankfeeds and InTray are transferred in the migration. Any additional live services such as Online Invoice Payments will need to be set up again in your new MYOB Business file.
  5. If you were connecting to this client's MYOB AccountRight file in your MYOB AE/AO Client Accounting software, you'll need relink the link the online MYOB Business file.
Will the add-on software integrated with my AccountRight files work with MYOB Business?

If you currently integrate your AccountRight files with add-on software, your connection may need to be re-configured after you move to MYOB Business. Please reach out to your add-on software provider for help in updating your connection to MYOB.
