Your AccountRight online file now takes care of backups for you - and gives you full access when you need it. Restore an automated backup, or a manual backup. Whether it’s done for you or done by you, your data’s always protected.

Cloud backups are available in AccountRight desktop to selected customers for early access. If you receive an invite email or see an in product prompt, that means you’re eligible.
To get started, from AccountRight, head to the File Menu to back up on demand or restore from a previous version.

Frequently asked questions
How often are automated backups taken?
Weekly, however, you can now also can select 'a point in time online backup' at any time.
How long are cloud backups retained?
Cloud backups are retained for six months.
What information is included/excluded in the backup?
Cloud backups include all data required for the file to function, including:
- Transactions
- Contacts
- Settings
- Attachments
Data transmitted via APIs is excluded.
Should I still take manual backups?
With weekly automated backups, in most instances you’ll no longer need to take regular manual backups.
Point-in-time backups may still be used before major activities such as payroll, BAS, inventory processing, or EOFY tasks.
Can I still create local (offline) backups?
Yes. You can choose to use offline backups if required.
You can toggle between online (cloud) and offline (local) backups in settings. Only one option can be enabled at a time.
Is there a limit to the number of cloud backups?
No. There are currently no limits on the number of cloud backups stored.
Why can’t I see the cloud backup feature?
Cloud backups are currently only enabled on selected files for early access. Check your email to find out more detail.
To see this feature, your company file must also be online. Offline files will not have access to cloud backups.
Can the six-month retention period be extended?
No. Backups are retained for six months only, and this cannot be extended.
Can I download a copy of a cloud backup?
No. Cloud backups are online only and cannot be downloaded as offline files.
Who can restore a cloud backup?
Only admin users with restore permissions can restore cloud backups.
Are cloud backups date and time stamped?
Yes. All backups are date and time stamped.
Can backups be renamed?

Automated backups: No (system-generated names)
Backup names cannot be edited after they are saved.
Where is my data stored and what security measures are in place?
Your data is stored on MYOB servers hosted in Australia.
MYOB uses Microsoft Azure with bank-grade security controls.
Data is encrypted at rest and in transit, with continuous monitoring and threat detection. This is significantly safer than local device storage.
Can I revert to the previous backup method?
Yes. You can disable cloud backups and revert to offline backups via settings at any time.
Will cloud backups impact performance?
In most instances, no performance impact is expected.
If your file is over 5GB, it may take up to a few hours to back up or restore.
